Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Alfred and Grace SLADE, 68 Warwick Street, Hobart, Tasmania

MY THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU DEAR SON THOUGH FAR APART MOTHER

SLADE.—Killed in action in France on October 6, Private Alfred Charles Slade, dearly beloved eldest son of Sapper Alf. and Mrs. Slade, of No. 68 Warwick street, Hobart, aged 26 years.
He died for King and country.

SLADE.—In loving memory of our dear brother, Alfred Charles, killed in action, France, October 6, 1917.
We miss you in the morning, brother,
We miss you through the day;
We miss you most, dear Charlie,
At the close of every day.
Inserted by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. Round.

SLADE —In sad and loving memory of my dear brother, Private Alfred Charles Slade, who was killed in action in France on October 6, 1917.
Somewhere in France they have laid him,
Our brother, so brave and true,
He fought for our country and freedom,
And died 'neath the Red, White, and Blue.
You have left two brothers still behind
To help to win the day;
And on the Roll of Honour
You'll find our dear Charlie's name.
Inserted by his ever-loving sister Hilda, and brother-in-law. Wickham Chaplin, and little niece Phyllis.

SLADE.—In sad and loving memory of our dear son, Private Alfred (Charles) Slade, who was killed in action in France, October 6, 1917.
He heard his country calling
For men to fight the foe;
He felt that he was needed,
So he volunteered to go.
Just when his life was brightest,
Just when his hopes were best,
He was called from this world of sorrow
To a home of eternal rest.
Sweet is the memory that never will fade,
Dear is the place where dear Charlie is laid;
Only those who have lost are able to tell
The pain in our heart at not bidding farewell.
Inserted by his loving mother and father.

SLADE.—In loving memory of our dear brother, Alfred (Charles) Slade, killed in France October 6, 1917.
For many a year the family chain
Was fondly linked together,
But now the chain is broken
One link has gone for ever.
Inserted by his loving brothers, Eric, Bert, Hec , and George (on Active Service).
