Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Arthur Newman was one of the first soldiers to enlist from Zeehan, Tasmania. He served at the Anzac landing and right through the Gallipoli campaign with the 12th Battalion and was twice wounded.

During the early part of 1916 he transferred to the Light Trench Mortar unit but was killed in action during the very heavy fighting at Pozieres.

His older brother, 1662 Pte. Henry Newman 40th Battalion AIF was later killed in action on 25 August 1918.
