The Dunoon Civic War Memorial in the southern edge of the town centre at the junction of Argyll Street (A885) and Alexandra Parade (A815), is a Freestone obelisk set on a raised plinth within railed enclosure. The bronze panel commemorating the dead of WWI is set on the front (eastern face) of the pedestal which is capped on all four sides by a Palladian style broken pediment. The front pediment features a lion rampant and shield with saltire carved in relief in the pediment break. The names of the WWII dead are commemorated on two bronze tablets set on the northern and southern faces, and the names of 11 theatres of war are cut into the western (rear) face. A Celtic Cross is set in raised relief on the eastern face of the obelisk shaft, with a band of Celtic knot work carved above.
There are also three New Zealand casualties honoured on this memorial.
