Son of George Veitch and Alice Mary Veitch nee Hughes  of Barney Street, Parramatta, NSW. Brother of Gravatt George Veitch who returned to Australia on 25 August 1917 having served with the Australian Army Service Corps but died on 4 July 1919 from war causes.

Commenced return to Australia on 11 May 1919 aboard HT Borda disembarking on 28 June 1919
