Frederick and his twin brother 56040 Frank Adolf Murray Bollenhagen enlisted together.

On enlisting Frederick was 22yrs old; 5' 8" tall; 158 pounds; dark complexion; brown eyes; dark hair,  single;  Anglican.

23/7/1918     Embarked from Port Melbourne onboard HMAT A74 Marathon
                    as a Private in 3rd Reinforcements
23/9/1918     disembarked into London
27/9/1918     alloted to 10th Battalion
11/12/1918   returned to Australia onboard HT Saxon, ex England
