Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the 12th October 1917, Private Lancelot Crebert, 36th Battalion (Reg No-2539), contractor from 44 Church Street, Mayfield, New South Wales, was Killed in Action by an enemy artillery shell, 1st Battle of Passchendaele, age 26.

Born at Waratah, New South Wales on the 23rd January 1891 to Peter Francis (died 1.7.1912, Wallsend, N.S.W., age 51) and Elizabeth Ann Crebert nee Prosser (died 26.2.1947, Mayfield, N.S.W., age?, name not inscribed on headstone), Lance enlisted on the 21st August 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 9th November 1916.
Reported Missing in Action 13.10.1917.

Reported Killed in Action 14.11.1917.

Mr. Crebert’s name has been inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Panel 29), Belgium.

Place of Association - Mayfield, New South Wales, Australia.

Lance’s name has also been inscribed on the Waratah Park Memorial Gates, Waratah & Mayfield Roll of Honour, Book of Gold, Mayfield Public School Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Crebert gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of their son Lance for God, King & Country. ANGLICAN 1-75. 78.

Younger brother Percy Crebert (born 5.4.1892, Waratah, New South Wales, labourer from Church Street, Mayfield, New South Wales, enlisted 4.9.1915, 3rd Battalion, Reg No-4445, wounded in action 24.7.1916 - (GSW left arm, chest & back, Battle of Pozieres), RTA invalided 29?.9.1917, died 29.4.1969, Mayfield, N.S.W., age 77, officially commemorated – https://connect.dva.gov.au/.../viewCommemoration.html...,
