From How We Served

154 Trooper Edward McNamara of Unley South Australia had been employed as a painter prior to enlisting for War Service on the 20th July 1915 and was allocated to the 32nd Battalion 1st AIF on its formation.

Edward embarked for Egypt and further training on the 28th of November and was transferred over to the Imperial Camel Corps on the 24th of January 1916. From his joining the I.C.C. Edward’s service in the desert campaigning against the Turkish Forces would be continuous aside periods of hospitalisation for sickness and debility, which after recovering, he would be returned to his Unit in the field.

On the breaking up of the I.C.C. Edward was taken on strength with the 14th Light Horse Regiment on the 1st of July 1918. After further service and with the end of the War, Edward embarked in Egypt for his repatriation to Australia on the 24th of July 1919. After his return to Adelaide, Edward was formally discharged from the 1st AIF on the 15th of October 1919 for his re-entry into civilian life.

Edward’s premature death occurred on the 17th of August 1932 at the age of 41, and following his untimely passing he was formally laid to rest within West Terrace Cemetery, South Australia.
