Pte Alfred HOLLAND had served in the Cadets pre-war. Enlisting in August 1915, he left Australia with the 12th Reinforcements to the 15th Bn in November. Briefly transferred to the 47th Bn in Egypt, he joined the 52nd in March 1916. He was admitted to hospital for pleurisy during May and June 1917. He eventually rejoined the unit on 5 October. And 14 days later, he was dead, killed by the shelling at Broodseinde Ridge.

His brother also served: Private Sidney George Holland #800, 7th Machine Gun Company, Killed in Action, 28 July 1918.
