The fourth of eight children, Charles Jnr was born at Richman's Creek nr Quorn, South Australia to Charles Bodinner Snr (b1841 in Devon, England) and Margaret (Maggie) Power (b1855 in Dublin, Ireland). Charles Snr was a Miner in 1856 when he emigrated to South Australia, arriving in Adelaide on board the Hooghly. He and Maggie married in 1880 at Richman's Creek in South Australia where they settled and raised their family until moving to Boulder WA in the late 1890s.

Charles was a Horse Driver in Boulder WA when he first enlisted in the AIF in June 1915 (Private; Service No:1900). He served in Egypt with 28th Infantry Battalion and was hospitalised at Gallipoli Peninsular with Influenza and heart trouble. He was Discharged as Medically Unfit in August 1916. Charles returned to Boulder WA where he was working again as a Driver when he enlisted in the AIF for the second time in February 1917 (Gunner; Service No:38183). Charles served in France with Field Artillery Brigades and 3rd Division Ammunition Column. He was Discharged in February 1920.

In Brisbane QLD in 1920 following his Discharge, Charles married Ruby (Jeane) Clotilde Green (nee Frenchman; b 1889 in Sydney, NSW) - Jeane, a Widow, was working as a Barmaid). The couple settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Charles worked as Baker's/Bread Carter before becoming a Munitions Worker in 1940. Charles died in 1947 and Jeane in 1966.
