Son of Frances and William Godfrey SPARKES, 55 Robert Street, Newtown, New South Wales

Wounded at Somme 8 August 1918 and invalided to De Walden Court V.A.D. Hospital, Eastbourne, Sussex.  Recovered and returned to his unit until the signing of the Armistice. Returned to Australia and was discharged as medically unfit 29 March 1919.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Sparkes, of Robert-street, Newtown, have received news that their son, Lance-Corporal Ernest Arthur Sparkes, has been severely wounded in France, and has  been admitted to the Eastbourne Military Hospital. Beforo leaving for the front Lance-Corporal Sparkes was employed as clerk in the Barrack-street branch of the Government Savings Bank.
