Son of Henry William Cooper and Alice Cooper nee Vigurs of Buninyong Street, Yarraville, Victoria. Brother of Henry Ackerold Cooper who was killed in action on 19 July 1916 while serving with the 59th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the VC Corner Adelaide Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles

Commenced return to Australia on 14 Decmeber 1918 aboaard HT Burma as woounded disembarking on the 29 January 1919
