He answered the call to serve King and country
Thomas Marshall was shot in 1916 while fighting with the 24th Battalion AIF in France. A lance-corporal, he married Dulcie Camilla Roberts, while recovering in Dorset from his wounds.
Thomas, born in Knowstone in Devon, was the son of John and Jane Marshall. He joined the 24th Battalion in Victoria, Australia in 1915 and arrived in France in the spring of the following year.
After the war, he returned to Poughill DEvon to work as a poultry farmer and rabbit trapper. He and Dulcie lived at 1, The Council Houses in the village for many years.
Thomas died in 1971, aged 77. Dulcie died in Crediton in 1977, aged 84.
