Son of George Arbuthnot Van Someren and Jessie Ann Van Someren of 147 Military Road, Mosman, NSW.
At the time of enlistment he was employed with the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, NSW and could speak French fluently.
Commenced return to Australia on 8 November 1918 aboard HT Gaika disembarking on 29 December 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney.
