Son of Samuel Henry Mawer and Sussannah Mawer nee Short of Stoodley, Tasmania formerly of Railton. Tasmania. Brother of Samuel James Henry Mawer who returned to Australia on 31 January 1918 having served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment, Catherine Maria Mawer, William David Mawer, Dagmar Mawer, Christina Mawer and Jessie Isobel Mawer
Commenced return to Australia on 23 July 1918 aboard HT Karoola as wounded disembarking on 4 September 1918
