Son of William Brown and Martha Brown nee Knights of  'Glen Vale', Broadford, Victoria. Brother of William Brown who was killed in action at Paozieres on 4  August  1916 while serving with the 23rd Battalion and no known grave. His name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial; Frank Brown MM who returned to Australia on 9 March 1919 having served with the 23rd Battalion
