95 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 6th October 1927, Sergeant Thomas Peter Moroney, 8th Australian Field Ambulance (Reg No-6736), dispensary chemist from 1 Gordon Street, Paddington, New South Wales and 355 Hunter Street, Newcastle, N.S.W., father of three (Jack, Phyllis, May), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 50. CATHOLIC 1-21. 52.

Born at Bathurst, New South Wales on the 25th February 1877 to Thomas Peter and Ann (Anne) Moroney; husband of Mary Agnes Moroney nee Sanderson (married 1915, Newtown, N.S.W., died 1966, 38 years a widow, sleeping here), Thomas enlisted May 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Service record indicates no sickness or wounding’s.

Thomas returned home April 1919 (Nursing Staff), being discharged on the 24th June 1919.
Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, returning home, etc.

Mr. Moroney’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not located inscribed on any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at the gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
