Son of John Francis Overend and Florence Overend nee Knight of East Melbourne, Victoria.

During 1908c Francis married Annie Agatha Murray in Victoria.

Next of kin given as his sister-in-law Johanna Culbertson of Wodonga, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 16 December 1917 aboard HS Kanowna disembarking on 13 February 1918.
