2 Jul 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Bullecourt (Second), 'Lance Corporal COUTTS continually carried wounded under heavy artillery and machine gun fire under direct observation of the enemy north of NOREUIL on May 3rd 1917. He was wounded but refused to give in, and carried on with his duty for several hours until he was completely exhausted when in consequence of his wound he had to be evacuated to the Casualty Clearing Station.'
