JOHN CHARLES PEGG
JOHN CHARLES PEGG (1893-1938) born at Knowsley VIC, son of William John and Ada Veronica Pegg. John was living at Junee when he enlisted in to serve in WW1 on January 22nd, 1915, at Liverpool as Private 181, in the 12th Light Horse Regiment, A Squadron, later transferred to Royal Air Flying Corps on January 1st, 1917. He sailed for Europe on HMAT Suevic A 29 on June 13th, 1915 and was sent to Gallipoli. He suffered from deafness and was sent to hospital at Heliopolis. He also did a course of instruction in Cooking (in he field) while on light duties. In France he was in Rouen and Havre hospitals. He was listed to return to Australia on May 6th 1919 on the Kaiser-I-Hind. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal. His daughter, Sylvia Buckmaster, applied for the Gallipoli Star on his behalf on May 1st, 1967.
