Son of William O'Connor and Margaret O'Connor of 'Shannonside', Allison Road, Kensington, NSW.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 November 1916 aboard HT Wiltshire disembarked at Durban on 11 December 1916 to be admitted to hospital. On 17 February 1917 Maurice re-embarked on HT Nestor at Durban for onward travel to Australia as an invalid disembarking in Sydney on 9 March 1917
