Son of Charles James Unstead and Margaret Unstead nee Kennedy of Adelaide, SA.
Brother of Charles James Unstead who returned to Australia on 23 March 1919 having served with the 46th Battalion and Leslie Victor Unstead who returned to Australia on 10 August 1919 having served with the 4th Light Horse Regiment.
Next of kin given as his sister Mrs W. Mitchell of Quantong, Victoria
5 October 1917 - enlisted at Horsham with the 12 Field Artillery Brigade with the rank of Private
13 July 1918 - transferred to the Australian Corps Working Party.
6 December 1918 - Transferred to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade
Commenced return to Australia on 12 July 1919 aboard HT City of Exeter disembarking on 24 August 1919
