Eric was the son of William George and Katherine Innes [nee Rowe]. Eric left
Melbourne on board HMAT A2 Themistocles on 4 August 1917, disembarking
at Glascow on 2 October and proceeded to Codford, England, for further
training. He was sent from Folkestone to France with his unit on 23 April 1918
where he fought for the duration of the war. Eric was attached to the War
Graves Registration Detachment in France on 16 May 1919. He returned to
Australia on the Aeneas on 22 November and was discharged on 18 March
1920.
