Clarence Eric Lambert Noble was born in Hobarton 27 February 1896, son of Henry Samuel ('Harry' or 'Fred') Noble, a labourer, and Clara Emma Gadd (b. 6 August 1854, Hobart, daughter of John Gadd). 

He had three sisters Evelyn (m. George Maycock), Myrtle and Louisa Edith Amelia (Louie), and four brothers, William Henry Edward (1878-1940), John Courtland (1882-1926), Samuel Leslie Alfred (1885-1950) and Fred who died on 27 June 1917.

He enlisted in Claremont, Tasmania on 31 August 1915 at age 19.5, when living at 378 Macquarie Street, Hobart. Prior to enlisting he had a record for throwing stones and fighting. He was also a cadet member for three years with the 14th Field Engineers.

In June 1918, Clarence was reported as being seriously ill. 

Clarence's father Harry died on 13 June 1918 at age 61 at 371 Macquarie Street, Hobart whilst Clarence was in active service with the AIF. He was mourned by Clara, Clarence (lambert) and two grandsons, Jack and Harry.

Mrs H. Noble, of 378- Macquarie street, has been notified that her son, Driver Lambert Noble, has left England by the s.s. Persic, and is expected to arrive in Melbourne on August 28. Driver Noble has been on service three years and eleven months (World (Hobart, Tas. : 1918 - 1924), Monday 11 August 1919, page 4)

In October 1920, Alfred Francis Stopps and Clarence Eric Noble were charged with driving vehicles on the wrong side of the road-way, and convictions were recorded against them (Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - 1954), Friday 15 October 1920, page 9)

Clarence's mother clara, died at 67 Melville Street, Hobart on 8 July 1930.
