ASSAN. — In Ioving memory of my dear brother, Private William (Bill) Assan, late C. Company 11th Battalion, A.I.F., killed in action at Pozieres on July 25, 1916.
With Christ; free from all pain.
From sorrow, grief and sin.
Inserted by his loving brother, Tom, late 51st Battalion A.I.F., and his loving sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, Florrie, Eileen, Alf., Peggy, Tommy, Bert, Bettie, and little Ronnie.
Intimation was received yesterday that Private W. Assan, son of Mr W. Assan, cook at the Club Hotel had been killed in action on July 25th. 1916. Deceased was reported missing several months ago, and inquiries made by the Red Cross Society resulted in it being ascertained that he had been killed. Before enlisting he was employed as a cab driver by Hanlon's livery stables.
