On 18th September 1915 Frank Levi Bailey joined the war at the age of 21.
On 5th of January 1916 Frank embarked as private 1827A, 9th Light Horse Regiment, on the HMAT Afric, Melbourne. He was later detached to the 13th battalion.
On the service papers it said that he was a naturalized Brit, with a weight of 146 and a chest measurement of 36 inches. He identified with the Church of England (C.OF E.)
