He was 20 and the son of William Harvey Marcombe and Fanny Marcombe, of Upper Dee River, Mount Morgan, Queensland, Australia. Born at Treharris, Wales. Treharris is a small town and community (and electoral ward) in the Taff Bargoed Valley in the south of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, South Wales.
