Charles William Septimus Dorward, 45, farmer of North Shields died in the Port Lincoln Hospital last week. He was driving a truck home from Port Lincoln four days previously, and when two and a half miles from the town the vehicle left the road and went over a cliff on to rocks 80 feet below. Dorward was alone, and when discovered he was in a critical condition. The death was caused by progressive shock. No fractures had been been sustainted by the deceased in the fall, but there were severe abdominal abrasions. The accident was witnessed by Dennis brothers who were fishing nearby and saw the vehicle hurtling over the cliff. They immediately went ashore and sent word to the police and remained until the doctor arrived. The vehicle was so badly smashed by the fall over the cliff that it was impossible to say whether any mechanical defect had contributed to the accident. Mr Dorward was a soldier in the last war, and he was given a returned soldiers' funeral in the soldiers' section at the Happy Valley Cemetery. The Rev. R.T. Hallahan conducted the service at the graveside. Mr Doward leaves a widow.
