Roy was the eldest of the nine children of John William Westcott (born 1864 in Devon, England) and Mary Alice Ruth Rush (born 1871 in Leyburn, QLD). John was a Farmer's son when he immigrated to QLD, and in 1892 he was a Grazier when he married Mary at Mitchell, Maranoa, QLD. John and Mary raised their family at Mitchell, QLD.
Roy was a Grazier at Sandford, Mitchell, Maranoa when he enlisted in the AIF in August 1916. He served as a Private and Lance Corporal (Service No:2913) with 6th Reinforcements 41st Infantry Battalion, Machine Gun Corps Details and 1st Machine Gun Battalion. Roy was WiA in France in September 1918 - GSW to left leg - and was Discharged in April 1919.
Roy returned to Mitchell, QLD and was a Grazier when he married Ellen O'Connor (born 1892 at Crow's Nest on the Darling Downs in QLD) in 1920. Roy and Ellen settled at Mitchell - Ashford and Sandford - where Roy was a Grazier. By 1954 they had moved to Toowoomba, QLD where Ellen died in 1978 and Roy in 1982.
