Originally enlisted as Robert Jennings 

Robert Ernest Jenkins is believed to have run away from home (aged c.18) to enlist in 1916, using the assumed surname of Jennings.

According to an eye witness statement in his Red Cross file, he was hit and killed by an enemy shell when advancing at Passchendaele Ridge on 13 October 1917.
