"WILLUNGA, June 13.
News was received by cable on Friday of the death from wounds, of Private Sydney Jacobs. He was a member of the Light Horse which has been engaged in the desert and was severely wounded in a skirmish with either the Arabs or the Turks. He lived nearly all his life in Willunga and was very popular. His death is sincerely regretted. He had been an employee of Messrs. Waye Bros. for about 10 years when he enlisted and was a regular player in the cricket and football teams. "David" as he was familiarly called has "done his bit for King and Country" and given his life in defence of both. His brother, Len, who went through the Gailipoli campaign from the landing to the evacuation is now in France." - from the Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser 16 Jun 1916 (nla.gov.au)
