Prior to coming to Australia Thomas had served with the Ayrshire Yeomanry and the Seaforth Highlanders.

Arrived at Port Adelaide, SA from Liverpool, England on 15 April 1913 aboard SS Runic

Address at the time of enlistment was given as Miller Street, Unley, SA.

Son of George Brown Oliver of Lochwinnoch, Scotland.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on 29 July 1915 aboard HS Hororata disembarking on 25 August 1915 at Melbourne for onward travel to Adelaide
