Awarded the Military Medal in 1918, 'During the operations on MONT ST. QUENTIN, North East of PERONNE, on 31st August, 1918, this man showed wonderful endurance and devotion to duty by continuously carrying messages to Battalion Headquarters and guiding parties to the line. He was under very heavy machine gun and rifle fire practically all the time. He worked unceasingly for 24 hours.'
