Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the Sunday afternoon of the 19th November 1944, Private George Cousin, 13th Battalion (Reg No-5063), labourer from 47 Gipps Street, Carrington, New South Wales and 45 Bourke Street, Carrington, N.S.W., father of five (Mag, Mollie, Flo, Grace, Enid), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 66. PRESBYTERIAN-16NW. 60.

Born at Carrington, New South Wales on the 27th December 1877 as COUSINS to George and Catherine M Cousin nee Champion; husband of Elizabeth Ann Cousin nee Kiem (married 1925, Wickham, N.S.W., died 21.11.1937, age?, sleeping here.  George enlisted on the 28th December 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A16 Star of Victoria on the 31st March 1916.

Admitted to hospital 30.9.1916 (haemorrhoids), 3.3.1917 (septic arm), 6.4.1918 (trench feet), 17.6.1918 (influenza).

George returned home invalided on the 12th June 1919, being discharged medically unfit on the 5th August 1919.

Mr. Cousin’s name has not been inscribed on the Carrington Citizens' Memorial Gates or the Carrington Municipal District Roll of Honor or any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at George’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
