James O’Dwyer Hennessy born in October 1894, son of James O’Dwyer Hennessy and Jane Ann Hennessy, brother to Mrs Catherine Murrin and signed as next of kin Mrs May Murphy and Thomas Patrick Hennessy. He had attended Christian Brother Collage in Adelaide, South Australia. They lived in Port Pirie, West, Port Pirie City and Dists, South Australia. His parents were deceased when he enlisted for WW1. His job before he had enlisted was a horse driver. When he enlisted for the war on the 07/01/1916 he was 21 and 4/12 years of age, 5 foot 4 and a quarter, chest size of 33 and a half inches. He had a fair complexion with blue eyes and light brown hair. James was a Roman Catholic.

He was assigned to the 32nd Battalion as a Private. On the 11/03/1916 he was admitted to the Torrens island Hospital with an infection and was discharged a month and one day later cured. On the 27/06/1916 he boarded the HMAT Malakuta with the service number of 3256 and was sent to England to fight. On the 30/09/1916 he was transferred to the 43rd Battalion. Being with the 43rd Battalion on the 25/11/1916 he was sent to France to fight. In the battle of Messines, a fight for the British to try and take over a bridge James on the 09/06/1917 had been shot in the Abdomen and admitted to the on-field hospital and the next day the 10/06/1917 died of those wounds.
