OBITUARY
MR. E. F. LANE
We deeply regret to record the death of Mr. Ernest Francis Lane, Postmaster at Tullibigeal, the sad event taking place in Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney, on Wednesday morning. Deceased had not enjoyed good health for the past two years, and on the 13th May he entered the B.N.A. Hospital at Weethalle. On the 26th May he left Weethalle for Sydney, and entered the Prince Alfred Hospital, where he died on Wednesday morning.
The late Mr. Lane was 40 years of age. His early life was spent in Sydney, and later he was a student at the Bathurst Experiment Farm, where he completed a course. From there he went to Mogilla Station, Goodooga (on the Queensland border), and from there he went to the Yass district. In 1917, after being rejected on several occasions, he was eventually accepted and enlisted in the First Pioneers, and was on active service in France until the Armstice. For some time afterwards he was on non-military service in the Channel Islands, and when he returned to Australia he drew a block of land at Yaddra. Some years ago he was appointed Postmaster at Tullibigeal, which position he occupied up to the time of his death. He was a keen worker for the Agricultural Bureau. He was also founder of the Australia Goat Society, and was instrumental in having prizes for Angora goats included in the schedule of the Royal Agricultural Society, Sydney. He was a keen student of Henry George, and was founder of the Liberty Party in New South Wales. He was a Past Grand of the M.U. Oddfellows, and was Financial Secretary of the Tullibigeal branch for several years.
Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. T. E. Lane, of Sydney, also two brothers and five sisters. The brothers are Mr. L. S. Lane, Postmaster at Weethalle, and Mr. H. J. Lane, of Sydney. The sisters are Mrs. R. St. George, Indooroopilly, Queensland; Mrs. J. Reeves, Concord; Mrs. B. Symes, Hunter's Hill; and Misses E. Lane and A. E. Lane, of Sydney.
