Son of William Ough and Helen Bell Ough nee Burns of Steele Street, Moonee Ponds, Victoria later of 'Avondale', Chandler's Road, Dandenong, Victoria.

Brother of David Ough who returned to Australia on 15 May 1919 having served with the 2nd Field Company Engineers; Henry William Ough who returned to Australia on 27 December 1918 having served with the 53rd Battalion

Commenced return to Australia on 20 December 1918 aboard HT Orontes disembarking on 30 January 1919
