James Thomas EAREA was born on the 30th of October 1886 in Woodburn, Lismore, NSW.

His parents were Walter Bromfield EAREA and Laura Ann DURRINGTON who were married on the 17th June, 1872 in Grafton NSW.

Known siblings for James were: May, Harriet, Arthur, Hamon, Bertha, Percy, Florence, Ruby and Roy.

He enlisted in Brisbane on June 25th 1915 and embarked on the Troopship "Kalifan" for Sydney on the 20th August 1915. He then sailed from Sydney to Alexandria on the Troopship "HMAT Shropshire", to join troops on Lemnos Island. 

He returned after sustaining injuries from war on the 4th of July 1919 on board the Hospital ship "SS Orca"

On the 12th of January 1918 James was promoted to Lance Corporal and took leave to Paris on the 26th January 1918 for ten brief days. By March he was back with his unit fighting at Hebuterne in France. 

He was promoted to Corporal with complete establishment on the 27th April 1918.
