The details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jordan, published 2017, refer to pages 51, 121+122, 225, 268 + 281. Prior to the war he was a clerk of Alberton, SA. He enlisted 17th May 1915 aged 22 years. He served with the 50th Infantry Battalion, and rose through the ranks to reach the rank of Lieutenant. He survived the war, and departed the UK for home 15th June 1919. Letters from Ernest were kept by the family and these have been donated to the Australian War Memorial, refer PR87/208.
