Albert was the fifth of six children of John Horace Lake (born 1858 in Norfolk, England) and Elizabeth Griffiths (born 1851 in Shropshire, England). John - a Stoker - and Elizabeth married in London in 1878, where they raised their family. John was working as a Locomotive Fitter's Assistant when they immigrated to NSW in 1913.
Albert was a Mercantile Ship's Stoker in Essex, England before he immigrated to Western Australia, where he married Muriel Ida Austin (born 1896 in Wickepin, WA) in 1913. The couple settled at Narrogin in WA, where Albert was a Railway Fireman when he enlisted in the AIF in September 1916 (he had been rejected in 1914 on the basis of poor dental health). Albert served as a Private (Service No:7016) with 11th Infantry Battalion and was WiA in France in September 1917. Albert was Discharged in March 1918 and returned to Narrogin, WA where he worked as a Railway Fireman.
In 1929, Albert and Muriel moved to Guildford at West Midland in WA, where Albert was a Locomotive Driver. He and Muriel Divorced in 1936, and Albert worked as a Locomotive Driver at Wagin in WA, where he died in 1943.
