His brother, 2789 Pte Daniel Wallace Palmer, 49th Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Messines, Belgium, 7 June 1917.
Two other brothers, Richard and Francis Palmer were badly wounded at Gallipoli only a few days before the evacuation. They were both returned to Australia on 3 March 1916, on the same ship.
