Biography contributed by Peter Cates

John Harry Lush (known as Harry) was born in Arkaba in the North of South Australia. In 1891 the Lushes came to live at Fairview, in Inman Valley, the original property of Harry's grandfather John Lush. The family eventually grew to include eleven children, six boys and five girls. Harry was involved in the local Methodist church, which continued to be an important influence throughout his life. He married Carrie Francis Douglas (known as Fanny) in 1907, and four children were born by the end of 2014.

Harrry worked as a butcher in Knightsbridge (now Norwood) and Snowtown before moving back to Inman Valley. When he enlisted he installed them in a house near Willunga police station.

Harry was wounded in France on 29 September 1918 and was recovering in England when the Armistice was signed. After the war he and fanny purchased a grazing propoerty, Monapilla, on the Willunga Scarp and had another daughter in 1921. They later lived at Delamere and Victor Harbor. Harry died aged 82.
