Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Francis Edmund "Frank" Hunt was born in Kent, England in 1871. At the age of eight, his family emigrated to the United States of America. He was raised in Texas. At the age of 27, around 1898, Francis travelled to Queensland to work. He worked in the sugar industry at Harwood Island in NSW, presumably in the Harwood Sugar Mill which sits on the banks of the Clarence River and has been crushing cane since 1874, making it the oldest continuously operating sugar mill in Australia.

He gave his place of association as Brisbane, Queensland and his next of kin as two sisters who were living in Texas, U.S.A. His parents died not long before he moved to Australia.

Frank was reported missing during the heavy fighting at Mouquet Farm in early September 1916. His remains were never found.
