Died on this date - 11th February........I thought previous posts I had made were bad days but today is worse - 6 WW1 Australian Soldiers died in England on this date in 1917....

Private Albert Victor Wheatley was born at Brighton, Tasmania in 1892 & enlisted in the A.I.F. on 1st October, 1916 as a 24 year old Labourer.

Private Wheatley arrived in England on HMAT Port Melbourne (A16) on 28th December, 1916 with 4th Reinforcements of 40th Battalion, after being hospitalised in Ship's Hospital for 2 days in October . He was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire on 4th February, 1917 seriously ill with Influenza. He died on 11th February, 1917 from Influenza.

ALL SIX AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS were buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire where there are a total of 141 Australian WW Soldiers.

Privates Hinchcliffe, Ley & Wheatley were buried in 15th February, 1917 & Privates Lane, McElhenney & Pantlin were buried on 16th February. His full story can be found here....
