Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Mimi Cemetery, N.S.W.

On the 4th October 1917, Private Herbert Harvey, referred to as Bert, 4th Battalion (Reg No-451), farmer from Fullerton Cove, New South Wales, was Killed in Action during the Battle of Broodseinde Ridge, near Ypres in Belgium, age 19 years 11 months. Cause of death unknown.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 12th October 1897 to Alfred (died tragically 6.5.1908, Wallsend Hospital, N.S.W., age 39, buried at Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 064), from Minmi, N.S.W., and Violet Ann Harvey nee Haddock (died 8.4.1911, Minmi, N.S.W., age 40, mother of 8, sleeping at Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 064.

Bert enlisted on the 16th January 1916 with the 34th Battalion, age 18 years 3 months, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.
Disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 16.9.1916.

Taken on Strength 4th Battalion 2.10.1916.

Admitted to hospital 6.11.1916 (bronchitis), 27.11.1916 (bronchitis), 5.12.1916 (trench feet, mild).

Bert is resting at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot XI Row E Grave 7.

Place of Association - Minmi, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Harvey’s name has also been inscribed on the Williamtown Public School Roll of Honour, Williamtown Anglican Church Roll of Honour and the Book of Gold.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Harvey gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of Bert for God, King & Country.

Older brother Frederick Harvey (born 26.7.1893, Hexham, New South Wales, single warehouseman from Hexham, New South Wales, enlisted 24.8.1914, Sydney, N.S.W., age 21 years 1 month, 1st Australian Field Artillery Brigade, Reg No-273, Gunner, an Original Anzac, RTA 21.3.1915, discharged medically unfit, re-enlisted 11.3.1916, Newcastle, N.S.W., 34th Battalion, Reg No-2079, RTA 30.12.1917, Sergeant, discharged medically unfit, died 23.6.1952, Western Suburbs Hospital, Sydney, N.S.W., age 58 years 11 months, from 69 Barton Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., ashes interred Newcastle Memorial Park, N.S.W., not officially commemorated
