Personal Stories
A Yorkshire Lad
Matthew was the younger brother of my grandmother, Ellen Berridge, nee Scott. She grieved for him all her life.
Matthew was the son of John Scott, village blacksmith, of North Dalton, East Yorkshire, and Alice, his wife. His name is inscribed on the village war memorial.
The exact circumstances which led to him joining the Australian military are not known to me.
