23 May 1918: Honoured Military Cross, During the advance of Rainecourt, east of Amiens, on 9th August 1918, this officer led his men, with the greatest courage and skill, to their objective, personally superintending the consolidation of the position, moving from post to post under heavy machine gun and shell fire. In the advance he encountered a hostile post. He unhesitatingly rushed it, with one man, and killed or wounded the garrison of five. Commonwealth Gazette 61, on 23 May 1919
