'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. As intelligence officer he continually went ahead under heavy shell fire and obtained information of the utmost value. Throughout he showed a complete disregard of personal danger, and rendered most valuable services.'

OBITUARY.
Captain Sydney Jackson Chapman, M.C., who recently died in New Guinea, was born in Maryborough. His surviving sisters are Mrs. W. Cook (Maryborough), Mrs. J. Maunsell (Melbourne), Mrs. K. Clarke (Sydney), Mrs. W. H. Wearne (Brisbane). His brothers are Messrs. W. Chapman and C. T. Chapman (Brisbane), F. J. Chapman (Sydney), and S. Chapman (of Yeppoon). A wide circle of Mary borough friends will learn with regret of the captain's death at the early age of 38 years. He spent his school days in Maryborough, and attended the Central Boys' School. He served with distinction in the Great War.
