Enlisted 6 Deptember 1915. Embarked with the 122th Reinforcements of the 8th Infantry Battalion. Although he embarked before 131 December 1915, he did not qualify for the 1914/15 Star as the ship had not left Australian Territorial waters by 31 Dec 1915.
He remained with the 8th Infantry Battalion throughout his service.
He was wounded in fighting at Passchendaele Belgium in late October 1917 in the latter phases of the Third Ypres campaign. He died of his wounds in hospital at Rouen and was interred in the large military cemetery there at St Sever.
