Alfred Morris Gardner was the son of Edward Benjamin and Sarah Ann Gardner, of Snake Valley, Victoria. He was one of 8 children, three of whom died serving with the AIF during WW1.
His brothers 1297 Pte. Herbert Benjamin Gardner 39th Battalion AIF, died of wounds 21 February 1917 and 3067 Lce. Cpl. Albert Edward Gardner 58th Battalion was killed at Bullecourt 12 May 1917.
