Son of William Henry Oakley and Lillian Oakley nee Starr of Howard place, Bendigo, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 10 March 1918 aboard SS Durham Castle then transhipped to HT Orentes at Cape Town, South Afirca on 12 April 1918  disembarking on 12 May 1918 at Sydney for onward travel to Melbourne
